Black tie, decoded
Black tie means floor-length or a formal midi, in a fabric with weight. If the invitation says black tie optional, a full-length column or a tailored occasion suit both read correctly.

For work-adjacent events we keep the drama in the fabric rather than the cut — you should look like the most considered person in the room, not the most photographed.
